Domaine de Romefort is five minutes from the medieval pilgrimage site of St Leonard de Noblat. This town, as well as Domaine de Romefort, are on the centuries-old pilgrimage route to St Jacques de Compostela Ella (Spain) and Rome. The origin of the word refers to Rome (Fort Romaeus) and fort, a solid and secure place to protect pilgrims (Roman Catholic). Domaine de Romefort lies in the region of the Haute Vienne (just above the Dordogne) and is 20 kilometers from the city of Limoges. This area is ideal for hikers and families who love nature (this is a great place, for example, for a family reunion). Domaine de Romefort is an old farm which has been transformed into 11 luxurious cottages and a chambre d'hote (bed & breakfast). Domaine de Romefort lies on grounds of 28 acres which contains fields and woods. A number of accommodations were renovated in 2008. The swimming pool of more than 100 square meters, built after the summer of 2008, represents the best way to cool off during the warm summers. The environment is very diverse, green and hilly and the views from here are simply magnificent! In the woods around the accommodation there is a walking tour of one hour. Along this route you can find places to rest or have something to eat. On the east side of Romefort you will find an extensive area around Lac de Vassiviere. This lake comprises 10 square kilometers and provides the opportunity to enjoy numerous water sports. The forests in the immediate surroundings are ideal for hiking and mountain biking. 15 minutes away (by car) there is a also recreational lake. Here you will find a beach with a lifeguard and space for activities. Along the field there is the Vienne River which is suitable for canoeing. Along the river there are many watermills that are still in use.
